Motivational Interviewing
Our Approaches: Motivational Interviewing
Understanding Motivational Interviewing
Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative, person-centered form of guiding to elicit and strengthen motivation for change
The core of motivational interviewing is the individual’s motivational processes that support change, which are explored and resolved. The technique varies from more “coercive” or externally-driven ways for inspiring change in that it promotes change in a way that is consistent with the individual’s values and concerns rather than imposing change (which may be inconsistent with the individual’s own values, beliefs, or wishes).
