Relationship Issues
A healthy relationship compliments one’s individual life and can bring happiness, security, excitement and comfort, with the ability to work together through the challenges and obstacles of life. Feeling like this connection has been lost can cause stress, worry and conflict. However, experiencing troubles within one’s relationship doesn’t have to mean that all hope is lost.
Issues can arise when there is an inability to manage or cope with problems experienced within the relationship. This can be due to excessive arguing, difficulties in communicating, feeling distant, or a diminished ability to trust each other. Stressors such as financial difficulties, affairs, sexual difficulties and adjusting to new situations can act as a catalyst for such issues or add to existing vulnerabilities within the relationship. Additionally, dealing with one’s own personal problems can place an added strain on relationships. If these problems are left unresolved, one can feel trapped, resentful and helpless, which can be destructive to the relationship and to oneself.
Seeking help doesn’t require a relationship to reach breaking point, and can benefit couples in a wide range of situations; such as, addressing differences in communication styles, and becoming new parents. Seeking help can improve understanding within the partnership, allowing it to thrive.
Our psychologists strive to explore and understand the dynamics of each relationship, to work together with individuals and couples in identifying each unique relationships’ conflicts and goals. With the help of therapy and relationship counselling, our psychologists can help to improve communication, and develop skills necessary for allowing the relationship to thrive. By working collaboratively in an open environment, individuals and couples can work to rebuild trust and equip themselves with the knowledge needed to work as a team through the ups and downs of life.
